Nedaleko Monasterboice se nachází ruiny Mellifont Abbey, prvního cisterciánského kláštera v Irsku. Klášter byl postaven roku 1142 a svému účelu sloužil do roku 1539. Dnes z něj zbylo jen několik ruin.
